Install Pkg Ps3 Without Jailbreak
How do you install rap file to ps3 console, i downloaded both and installed with multiman and filezilla to ps3 hdd/0 then installed install package manager on xmb with install packages standard install to hdd and it loaded i tryed playing the game it said that game has to be throught the psn storee something like that, didnt work. Download PS3 Jailbreak and unzip it on your desktop. Update: Download no longer 2. Take a USB pen drive and in it’s root create a folder named ‘PS3’. Create another folder inside ‘PS3’ named ‘UPDATE’. Move the PS3UPDAT.PUP file (from the unzipped file you downloaded in Step 1) to ‘UPDATE’ folder on your USB flash drive. Also jailbreaking has a bunch of cons, such as not being able to access the PSN and not being able to play most newer games released after 2011. Also, you can't install PKG's without jailbreaking either. And that would be pirating. So yeah, I wouldn't consider it if you only want this for PS1 backups.
Hmm, I'm not sure where you get your information, but first of all the PS3 has been hacked for over a year now. I believe firmware 3.41 was the first time people started running unsigned code. Anyway, regarding your question - there is no one on this earth who can give you a guarantee that installing ANY third-party application on your PS3 (whether Showtime or otherwise) is completely safe and runs NO risk of being discovered and penalized by Sony. However, we can say that thousands of people have already done it without any negative consequences. I wouldn't worry about that, but I obviously can't tell you how to feel.
Since you mentioned Sony pushing a firmware upgrade, I would just remember to never upgrade until you're absolutely positive that the upgrade will not affect your current setup. Wait a few days after the update, maybe even a week or two, and read up online to find out what the update actually does, how it has affected people who have already updated, etc. There's no rush. If you do your research and find out the coast is clear, then you go ahead and update no problem.
Otherwise, stay on your current firmware. If there is a problem, eventually people will crack it. I'm getting the feeling you are just starting out. You're going to want to read some guides man. Hacking the PS3 is pretty easy, but it's not without its risks, and you have to realize that you will likely not be able to upgrade your firmware as long as you want to keep running programs like Showtime. You need to spend AT LEAST a night or two of doing some serious RESEARCH.
Then you'll be fine. Furthermore, if your PS3 has internet access, there is the likelihood that Sony will ban your console from PSN forever.
There are ways around that by using firewalls, etc. Again, consult some forums on this issue if you don't know what's what. As long as you don't mind the inability to play the newest games that require current firmware, the inability to use any online services, and the potential of getting permabanned from PSN, hacking your PS3 and using Showtime is remarkably safe. Again, like everyone will tell you, there is never a guarantee, especially if you go into the process blind. In short: running showtime = near-zero risk. Hacking your PS3 = potential risk. This being the Showtime forums, this isn't the best place to ask about hacking PS3s, although obviously we've all done it.
Again, check out PSX forums or something similar for guides, and the newest news on what's going down. @Scott: I just realized that you might not even know that your firmware must be on 3.55 or below to even jailbreak in the first place.
Install Pkg Ps3 Without Jailbreak 2
So what's your PS3 firmware right now? If it is 3.55 or below, then this guide might be a good starting point and tutorial for you to follow: You really only need to finish up to and including Step 2. You also might prefer to skip step 1 if you just download a pre-patched PUP file from somewhere, but that runs the risk of inadvertently using a bad or malicious file, which is why the tutorial walks you through creating one on your own. Anyway, once you've got your PS3 jailbroken, you can proceed to install the latest version of Showtime using a.pkg file found here. Scott dude wrote: My firmware is the latest, I am SOL.
O-well, I will keep an eye on things and if see a good point to jump in I will. You didn't even know you was using official firmware? Lol Do you really think Sony would be okay with Showtime? Do you know why.mkv support wasn't added in the native player? It's because.mkv files are used mainly used for piracy and illegally downloaded films and TV shows.
You don't have a choice to jump in, anything past 3.55 and you never can, unless ofcourse a new CFW comes out, which i wouldn't hold my breath for, there is ways to downgrade 3.70 ofw with Projectskeet, but it's really really advanced. This is no longer true. There are new methods for downgrading v3.70 right now, but they require hardware modification (soldering in some wires). You can find more information/news about hacking your PS3 using sites like and There may eventually be an exploit to hack newer PS3 firmwares but it is unlikely or may take a long time to be available. Your only real option if you are over v3.55 is to use one of the hardware MODs. I did read about a method that didn't require you to open the PS3 and MOD it, but it only worked for newer models that have the NOR chip, and even then you still had to buy a specific USB device for probably around 40$ to use this method, and it's not guranteed to work above v3.70. There are lots of information and developments every day you can read about on the sites I listed.
If you're willing to spend a little extra money and be willing to learn and research the process, it is possible to downgrade v3.70 consoles to v3.55 right now. They just are not very easy, at least not yet.

.Revised Method. THIS METHOD PUTS THE GAME ICON ON THE PS3'S GAME MENU AND AFTER INSTALLATION YOU DONT NEED A JAILBREAK TO PLAY IT BECAUSE ITS SIGNED THANKS TO THE AWESOME APP BY BrownMuffin called 'Pkg Builder' and of course all the hard work from failoverflow and geohot.
USE THIS TUTORIAL IF A GAME YOU WANT TO TRY REQUIRES 'GAME DATA' TO BE INSTALLED. First Download 'Pkg Builder' by BrownMuffin from here: it's the best version because it does everything and lets you choose where to put the USRDIR folder.
Remember to run Pkg Builder in Adminsistator mode so it can write files OK. Just right click it In Step 2 of pkg builder change game path to. For Tomb Raider I entered 'TOMBGAME' I then copied the games USRDIR directory to devhdd0 TOMBGAME (but delete the eboot.bin or you'll get an error) and make sure the name is in CAPS and has 8 letters/numbers. You need to do the following steps to make the PS3 recogrize the FALSE folder name for the game you want to install to XMB 1. Use PS3 SFO Editor (you can find it in the download section under PS3 Utilities) to edit the PARAM.SFO of your game and change the Title ID of your game, just change the last number so its easy to find. Make your.pkg file using Pkg Builder making sure you use the edited PARAM.SFO, then install it.
Use a file manager on your PS3 to take out the PARAM.SFO eg. Devhdd0/game/BLES./ PARAM.SFO, change the Title ID to the original one and put it back where you got it. Use your backup manager to start the game, let it install the GAME DATA and when it's finished exit the game and turn off the PS3 Start the PS3 without the jailbreak and play your game If you followed the instructions above you will be able to install updates but you will be asked to install the same update every time you start the game if you are connected to the internet. Not all games work with.pkg installation to xmb but with this method it greatly increases the amount that work.
If you find more games that work please let us know including the firmware you're on Update: I've updated to waninkoko's CFW 3.55 v2 (not from recovery but straight from 3.41 to wan's 3.55 v2 in XMB) and all of the games I installed to XMB still work, except F.E.A.R. I have personally tried it with the games below that requires game data to be installed and it worked Games that are working that need Game Data installed: Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition Lost Planet 2 The Orange Box (but a jailbreak dongle is needed) Dead Rising 2.
This one was a bastard to get working so heres the pkg and instructions Dead Rising 2 XMB install: Vanquish works but automatically uses an alternate folder name so no need for the above method Games that are working that dont need Game Data installed: Tomb Raider Underworld Call of duty Black Ops. Download for this game F.E.A.R.
2 BLES 00464 (doesn't work on 3.55 waninkoko v2, only option is multiman 1.16+/ highlight game/select+x) Timeshift (saving and using save files is buggy). Most games are to big to pack into one package (over 4gb) but also alot of games that are small enough dont work anyway if you pack the whole game, so always at first dont include any files in 'USRDIR' except the EBOOT.BIN but always include all other files in PS3GAME keeping the file structure. Where is the file being stored when you make the.PKG?
PS3 HDD is not Fat32, and will handle a file bigger than 4GB. If you are making the PKG file on your PC first, well, NTFS also supports files 4GB. I don't see why you are restricted to games less that are.
